Smorgasbord

Bridge Baron 11 is a nice offering, a software package (available on CD-ROM) that contains a vast array of bridge-related experiences for players at all levels.

In addition to a deal generator and a deal library (for storing particular layouts), the CD also features a large set of deals from actual tournament play (recent regional and NABC's), allowing you to see how you would score if you had actually been playing in the event. A conventional tutorial is another feature, along with a set of problem deals for you to practice your declarer play.

Another facet to this product is the ability to play online with other Bridge Baron customers.

There are more than two billion deals on the CD (no, you can't possibly play them all), and the computer play a nice variety of conventions as your partner or opponent. You can select which system (Standard American, 2/1 or Acol) you want the computer to play, as well as which conventional gadgets from its rather lengthy list of options.

The software features seven different skill levels. The quality of play is good (as far as bridge software goes) but since all computer bridge games have moments of inexplicable behavior, Bridge Baron is much better than most. Bridge Baron has won the World Computer Bridge Championship five times.

This product is a lot of fun and makes a great gift.

Note that owners of previous Bridge Baron editions may order Bridge Baron 11 as an upgrade for $29.95, plus $5.00 shipping.
